About Joel Yacoob
Joel Yacoob is the founding partner of Neuhaus & Yacoob LLC, a matrimonial and family law firm at 195 Montague Street in Brooklyn. He represents high-net-worth individuals and professionals in contested divorces involving business interests, real estate and substantial assets, and parents in high-conflict custody disputes. Many of his matters resolve through negotiation; when they do not, he litigates them.
His practice also includes Family Court, where he represents parents in custody, support and family offense matters and in Article 10 neglect and abuse proceedings brought by the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) or a county child protective agency. For clients who want them, he prepares prenuptial and postnuptial agreements and handles uncontested divorces for published fixed fees.
Joel is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and is a graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Clients in New York City, on Long Island, in Westchester, Rockland and Orange Counties, and in New Jersey work with him directly; consultations are available by phone or video.
Practice focus
- Contested and high-net-worth divorce, including equitable distribution of businesses, real estate and investment and retirement assets
- Child custody and parenting time, including relocation and modification
- Child support and spousal maintenance, including incomes above the statutory caps
- Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, including halachic prenup provisions
- Uncontested divorce for a fixed fee
- Jewish divorce and the Get, and Beis Din arbitration and settlements
- Family Court and ACS defense
How Joel works with clients
Joel handles each matter personally. In divorce, custody and support matters, New York requires a written retainer agreement and the Statement of Client’s Rights and Responsibilities, and he reviews both with each new client before the representation begins (22 NYCRR Part 1400). Uncontested divorces, prenuptial agreements and postnuptial agreements are offered for fixed fees so the cost is known at the outset.
For observant clients, he coordinates the civil divorce with the Get and any Beis Din proceeding, so that the settlement agreement, the sworn statement New York requires under Domestic Relations Law § 253 and the religious process fit together. He also represents clients in Beis Din arbitration and in court proceedings to confirm or vacate arbitration awards.

Joel was selected to Super Lawyers in Family Law each year from 2020 through 2025. Super Lawyers selects attorneys through a process described on its website. No aspect of this advertisement has been approved by the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
